The Ephemerist Redsign Project

After a short introductory project in the summer of Year One, our first 'official' project of our Editorial design module was to produce a redesign of The Ephemerist, the magazine of The Ephemera Society.

Third Time Lucky

At the moment, it's proving difficult not to think about how quickly the last two years have flown by and how inevitable it is that my last academic year, or more specifically final nine months, at university will do the same.

With third year in full swing, current ventures include the exciting opportunity to create an independent visual culture magazine as part of one of my modules (which is also giving me some food for thought about my upcoming career decisions), giving myself a crash course in perception and cognition and deciding that I would really, really love to learn German after visiting it for the first time on my travels over the summer.

Other aims for this year include not driving people mad with the many rounds of experiments which will accompany my dissertation, learning how to properly pronounce the word 'Haupbtbahnhof' and learning hot to take a photo in the studio with out including one of my feet (see the above picture for details).

Crystals

Inspiration can come from some slightly odd places. In this case,  walking the dog.

It wasn't really that I'd seen anything relating to what I made, just that I'd been turning over a few ideas for something after listening to Of Monster's and Men's new single, Crystals, and trying to sort out something to put on paper (or screen).

Hand in Hand

Three of the things I love more than anything are music, language (you know, words and all that malarkey) and of course, typography. It goes without saying really that the thing I doodle more than anything else is is song lyrics -- give me a piece of paper and pretty quickly it'll be smothered with whatever's stuck in my head that day.

It's pretty rare though that anything ever makes it past the doodle stage. So, while desperately trying to come up with a new project with myself, an opportunity cropped up in the shape of a song I've pretty much had on repeat for the last few days.
